vGPU unlock vs GPU unlock
Two different unlocks that share a name.
| gpu-unlock | vgpu_unlock | |
|---|---|---|
| What it unlocks | Full-rate FP16/BF16/TF32 tensor math | NVIDIA vGPU: one card split across VMs |
| Cards | RTX 20, 30, 40 | Maxwell, Pascal, Turing (Ampere limited) |
| How | Kernel module before the driver loads | Hooks the vGPU driver to report a supported device ID |
| Use it for | Local AI training and inference | Proxmox, KVM, GPU-accelerated VMs |
Can I use both?
They solve different problems. gpu-unlock targets bare-metal cards and was also tested in a VFIO guest with an RTX 4070 Ti. vgpu_unlock needs the NVIDIA GRID vGPU driver.
